About the Event

On Thursday, Jan. 18 at 10 AM, DaySpring will be hosting the Silver Linings Series in our Chapel.

Calvary, DaySpring, Lake Shore and Seventh and James have teamed up to offer our senior adults some thought-provoking lectures and shared fellowship opportunities as part of this series.  For four months, beginning November ‘23 through February ‘24, we will gather together at one of our churches for a morning lecture and time together.

DaySpring’s guest lecturer will be our own Fiona Bond. Fiona is founding CEO of Creative Waco, the organization established in 2015 to serve as the regional Arts Council “to grow and support a thriving cultural and creative community in Waco and McLennan County.”

She came to Waco from the UK, where she led cultural initiatives in higher education, faith, and economic development, including the University of Cambridge’s Theology Through the Arts Program. She has a BA (hons) in Theology from Durham University (UK) and an MBA (hons) from The Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University.  She is author of 'The Arts in Your Church' (Piquant, 2001), serves as a panelist for Texas Commission on the Arts and National Endowment for the Arts, was named "Wacoan of the Year" in December 2020, was elected President of Texans for The Arts in November 2021, and re-elected in November 2023.

Fiona is passionate about creating well-rounded, vibrant, creative communities in which all participants can thrive. She juggles her professional roles with family life, and plays bagpipes with her younger son for relaxation.

We are looking forward to hearing Fiona’s presentation entitled, “Art, God, Waco and the World.”  She will share with us how our city is defying national trends and growing significantly as a hub for arts and culture, festivals, media production, and even as a cultural destination. Unusually for our society, much of this activity is rooted in Christian identity.

Fiona will further help us find answers to these questions:  What’s going on? What’s in the works? What’s our role? And why does it matter in a world seemingly angled more towards division and destruction than art and creativity?
