Serve at the 
Naomi House

Find your way to support the Naomi House. 

English Partners - Spend time regularly with the Naomi House guests practicing English. This can range in structure from slow conversations to intentional curriculum teaching. Whatever the volunteer is comfortable with can always be helpful. 

 

Transportation - Our guests rarely have a driver’s license, therefore, providing rides to various events (regular or random) is always a need. 

 

Circle of Friends - Support guests for up to 6 months after they move out of the Naomi House as they adjust to living and working in this culture. Meet once or twice a month in support and friendship.

Bus HelperLearn the Waco Transit system and be available to support the family in learning how to use the bus system to help develop independence.

 

Groceries Contact - Check in monthly with the family to assist with them accessing food pantries and knowing how to use the food received, finding ways to cook these foods, assisting guests in making the most of their money at groceries stores.

 

NH Yard Team - mostly in the summer to assist with mowing, workdays throughout the year and any other needed yard work.

 

Work Supportsupport the guests in finding ways to make money, from small business opportunities to applying in town. This job will require periodic check-ins with the family.

 

La Puerta Liaisonkeep abreast of what is happening at La Puerta and ways that our guests can continue to develop supportive relationships and further their goals. 

 

Education Contactsupport the guests and family in accessing educational services in Waco (Waco ISD, MCC, La Puerta, ESL at Columbus, Harmony Science Academy, summer schools, Texas Workforce Commission training and Christian Women’s Job Corp through FBC Waco and La Puerta). This job requires checking in periodically with the guesets to make sure they are accomplishing their educational goals and connected with resources.

 

Legal Liaisonassist the family in completing the extremely detailed account of why they are request asylum and work with the lawyer to make sure it is accurate. Spanish speaking needed. Takes time for about a month to hear the story and document but once it is turned in the job is complete. 

 

Welcome Teamhelp get the home ready for a new guest (cleaning, bedding, new blankets, stuff animals, pjs, toiletries and help get the house stocked), help with welcome meals, assist in finding used clothes and other clothing for the family but soliciting the church and thrift stores (first 2 months and during season changes)
