Season of Creation
Let them praise the name of the Lord!

The 2026 Season of Creation celebrates the 800th Feast Day of St. Francis, “the patron saint of ecology.”
This year’s theme, from Psalm 148 is,
“All Creatures, Sing Praise!”
By all of God’s creatures, each in their unique identity, God’s name is praised in all the earth.
By joining the praise of God with all creatures, we renew our relationships with God, within Christian community, and with the earth.

“The Life and Legacy of St. Francis of Assissi”
St. Francis of Assisi is the “patron saint of ecology” and may be the most well-known Christian since biblical times. Our adult formation hour will be an introduction to his life and legacy.

Today we focus on Francis’ famous prayer “Canticle of the Creatures” and the invitation to pray with all the creatures—as brothers and sisters--who give God praise.

6:00 pm - Dinner on the Grounds
Bring a picnic and enjoy fun on the hill.

6:30 pm - “Loving Our Lawns: Christian Ethics and a Theology of Green Space”
Led by Sam Davidson
This presentation is an invitation to see creation through the most immediate lens available to most of us: our lawns, yards, porches, and green spaces. We will discuss where cultural ideas about lawns originated, and what it means to think about ourselves and our yards as fellow creatures. We will also learn how to heal local ecologies through concrete practices in our own backyards.

Youth Group will meet in the Narthex for games, a lesson, and discussion until 7:30 pm.
​
Kindergarten–5th grade students are invited to join Wednesday Worship in the chapel, featuring singing, a Bible lesson, prayer, and age grade activities. We have childcare available for children ages 0-4 in the baby and toddler worship care rooms.

Friday, October 2
6:00 pm - Francis Family Night
We look forward to seeing those who RSVP'd at 6:00 in the Narthex. We'll eat pizza, learn how bugs contribute to our ecosystem, and then transition to the new building to make bug hotels. All you need is a hammer. All other supplies will be provided.
Saturday, October 3
9:00-11:00 am - “Take Two Workday”
Work on trails and gardens for two hours on Saturday morning.

7:00-830 pm — Loving Our Neighbors
In the 1940s, inspired by centuries of Franciscan spirituality, the residents of Assisi received and protected their Jewish neighbors from the Nazis. Tonight, we will turn to our contemporary context through a 30-minute film from our colleagues at FaithWorks titled, Jesus was a Migrant, and then we will discuss together how we might have generative conversations with friends and family about immigration while enjoying Tres Leches cake and coffee.

We will also host the work Belonging created by Baylor University students in the Art as Civic Practice class and the Fiber Surface Design class. The art installation utilizes data visualization strategies to create space for contemplation of separation and belonging in the Waco community. Tina Linville co-led the design of the piece. This panel was at the Understory Festival it was a part of: "Migration & Immigration: From Story to Policy" Community Form in May.

While we don’t have children’s activities during this event, we are pleased to offer childcare for children ages 0-4 years from 6:50-8:30. If you need childcare, please email Amy Everett.

Launching Our Year of Loving Attention with the 2026-27 DaySpring Biodiversity Project, and our Canticles of our Critters.

4:00 -7:00 pm - All-Church Retreat: Covenant Day Celebration at Whitehall Park (7600 Fresno Street, Woodway)
Play at 4:00 p.m.
There is no childcare at the retreat. Families are invited to enjoy the large children’s playground and sports courts, featuring pickleball, tennis, and gaga ball.
Picnic at 5:00 p.m.
​Bring your own chairs and picnic. Church provides drinks & desserts.
Program at 6:00 p.m.
We will celebrate what’s been done on campus in last 5 years and look forward to all that is in front of us in the months and years to come. ​During the program, coloring sheets and crayons will be available for children.
