Season of Creation
Let them praise the name of the Lord!

The 2026 Season of Creation celebrates the 800th Feast Day of St. Francis, “the patron saint of ecology.”
This year’s theme, from Psalm 148 is,
“All Creatures, Sing Praise!”
By all of God’s creatures, each in their unique identity, God’s name is praised in all the earth.
By joining the praise of God with all creatures, we renew our relationships with God, within Christian community, and with the earth.

“The Life and Legacy of St. Francis of Assissi”
St. Francis of Assisi is the “patron saint of ecology” and may be the most well-known Christian since biblical times. Our adult formation hour will be an introduction to his life and legacy.

Today we focus on Francis’ famous prayer “Canticle of the Creatures” and the invitation to pray with all the creatures—as brothers and sisters--who give God praise.

Bring a picnic and enjoy fun on the hill.

6:30 pm - “Loving Our Lawns: Christian Ethics and a Theology of Green Space”
Led by Sam Davidson
This presentation is an invitation to see creation through the most immediate lens available to most of us: our lawns, yards, porches, and green spaces. We will discuss where cultural ideas about lawns originated, and what it means to think about ourselves and our yards as fellow creatures. We will also learn how to heal local ecologies through concrete practices in our own backyards.

Youth Group will meet in the Narthex for games, a lesson, and discussion until 7:30 pm.
​
Kindergarten–5th grade students are invited to join Wednesday Worship in the chapel, featuring singing, a Bible lesson, prayer, and age grade activities. We have childcare available for children ages 0-4 in the baby and toddler worship care rooms.

Friday, October 2
6:00 pm - Francis Family Night
Caring for creatures means all creatures—even bugs and slugs! Come learn about the important role bugs play in our ecosystem and build your own bug hotel to take home. RSVP here by September 25.
Pizza dinner begins at 6:00 p.m. Childcare available for children ages 0-4.

7:00-830 pm — Jesus was a Migrant film screen and discussion
In the 1940s, inspired by centuries of Franciscan spirituality, the residents of Assisi received and protected their Jewish neighbors from the Nazis. Tonight, we will turn to our contemporary context through a 30 minute film, “Jesus was a Migrant” and then how we might discuss a Christian response to immigration in redemptive conversation with friends and family.

While we don’t have children’s activities during this event, we are pleased to offer childcare for children ages 0-4 years from 6:50-8:30. RSVP here by September 25.

Launching Our Year of Loving Attention with the 2026-27 DaySpring Biodiversity Project, and our Canticles of our Critters.

4:00 -7:00 pm - All-Church Retreat: Covenant Day Celebration at Whitehall Park
We will celebrate what’s been done on campus in last 5 years and look forward to all that is in front of us in the months and years to come.
​
There is no childcare at the retreat. Families are invited to enjoy the large children’s playground and sports courts, featuring pickleball, tennis, and gaga ball. During the program, coloring sheets and crayons will be available for children.
