Migration & Hunger : Naomi House
Advent:
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call him Immanuel’ (which means God with us).” (Matthew 1:23)
The Need:
Hunger and migration are closely linked, as food insecurity often drives people to leave their homes in search of safety and sustenance. Conversely, migration can increase vulnerability to hunger when access to food is limited in new locations due to poverty, legal barriers, or lack of resources. This cycle highlights how displacement and scarcity are interconnected challenges affecting millions worldwide and thousands in our Waco community.
Our Partner in Ministry:
The Naomi House ministry offers a welcoming space for asylum seekers to find rest and share in the joy of breaking bread together with our Dayspring community. DaySpring operates a hospitality house in Waco, Texas, for asylum seekers who recently entered the United States. The Naomi House is a temporary place of refuge for families as they prepare for the next steps in their asylum-seeking journey. As Naomi took in Ruth on their journey as outsiders in a foreign land, so the Naomi House seeks to accompany those seeking asylum and refuge. (Ruth 1:16-22)
How we can help:
Church members serve as mentors, friends, English partners, and drivers as we seek to create an intentional healing space while asylees establish housing, jobs, and community. Your gifts this holiday season will go to ensure our newly relocated Waco neighbors have their food needs met as they get established in our community.
Dayspring liaison:
